| CEH Edinburgh are engaged in monitoring both gaseous ammonia (NH3) and a number of air pollutants with which it reacts. The monitoring of NH3 and aerosol ammonium (NH4+) is conducted under the UK National Ammonia Monitoring Network. Monitoring of gaseous nitric acid (HNO3) and nitrate aerosol (NO3-) is conducted under the UK National Nitric Acid Monitoring Network. Following concern about the possible environmental impacts of atmospheric ammonia, the Department of Environment (DEFRA) is supporting work to monitor the air concentrations of ammonia and ammonium across the UK. | |||
